No More

No More

You give twenty dollars a month
To your self-help charity
You say you're tryin’ to end world poverty
But turn around and vote
To increase the income disparity
That's tearin' our world apart
But you're doin’ your part
So you close your eyes
And put your headphones on
And block it all out
As the man with the sign on the corner turns to shout,
“No more!
We the people, never wanted this war
We never wanted this war!”

How many wars will it take to learn?
And how many homes and lives will burn?
Before we wake up and let our troops return
I said, how many wars will it take to learn?

It's time to stand up
And say no more
To lies and propaganda
No more!
To senseless killing
No more!
To all the politicians
No more!
We've lost our thirst for war

How many wars will it take to learn?
And how many hopes and dreams will burn?
Before we wake up and let our troops return
I said, how many lives will it take to learn?

Namir Noor-Eldeen was twenty-two
He had his whole life ahead of him and things to do
But July 12, 2007 would be his last day
A helicopter came from two continents away
We the great USA here to save the day
From a chopper's sight
They're like ants from on high
We're like Olympian gods from the sky
Here to choose who lives and who dies

You see Namir Noor-Eldeen was a journalist
He had a camera on his shoulder they mistook
For an rpg so they took their gun and strafed
And put 12 innocent men in their graves
I thought we were supposed to liberate
Not attack and devastate
Those who have endured so much hardship
Why are they the targets?
In a war over fossil fuels
And million dollar deals
The people have become collateral
Sacrificed, like pawns in a game, for lateral
Movement like corporate chutes and ladders
They don't understand
What is the matter
With the people on the corner
There day after day
Saying, “There is another way!
We the people, don't want this war
We never wanted this war
No more!
No more!”

How many wars will it take to learn?
And how many homes and lives will burn?
Before we wake up and let our troops return
I said, how many wars will it take to learn?

It's time to stand up
And say no more
To lies and propaganda
No more!
To senseless killing
No more!
To all the politicians
No more!
We've lost our thirst for war

How many wars will it take to learn?
And how many hopes and dreams will burn?
Before we wake up and let our troops return
I said, how many lives will it take to learn?
