Lunar Cycle Third Quarter Moon Ceremony

Third Quarter Moon Ceremony

Third Quarter Moon Ceremony

(Air)

Materials Needed:

  • Incense/incense holder
  • Candle lighter
  • Purple Candle
  • Blue Candle
  • Red Candle
  • Brown or Black Candle (Or pink salt candle holder)
  • Consecrated Bay Leaf (From the First Quarter Moon Ceremony)
  • Pen
  • Paper
  • Candle w/ sigil from New Moon Ceremony
  • Tarot Deck
  • An altar or table

Prepare the Temple

Clean the space you are going to use for the ceremony and place your altar or table in the center. Place the incense in the East, place the red candle in the South, place the blue candle in the West, and place the black or brown candle (We use a pink Himalayan salt tealight candle holder with tealight candles) in the North. Place the consecrated bay leaf, pen, paper, candle w/ sigil, purple candle, and tarot deck on the altar.

You will need a place to safely burn a small amount of material for this ceremony. I have a wood-burning fireplace in my temple but you may need to go outside briefly.

Prepare Yourself

Now that your temple is prepared it’s time for the ritual bath. Remember the intent is to relax and let your worries and distractions wash away so that your body and mind are clean and pure for the ceremony. Use whatever salts, oils, or soaps you like and enjoy yourself but don’t take too long. You have work to do. When you’re done, dry off, and put on whatever clothing you feel comfortable meeting the sacred in.

Closing the Circle

Refer to my post on the Circle of Praise for the instructions and corresponding imagery and symbols.

  • Light the incense representing the element of air as you recite the words for the East and visualize yellow light lighting up the Eastern quadrant of the space and extending outwards.
  • Light the red candle while you recite the words for the South and visualize red light lighting up the South quadrant of the space and extending outwards.
  • Light the blue candle while you recite the words for the West and visualize blue light lighting up the Western quadrant and extending outwards.
  • Light the black/brown/salt candle while you recite the words the for North and visualize brown light lighting up the North quadrant and extending outwards.
  • Light the purple candle while you recite the words for Sister Luna and visualize grey light extending downward.
  • Visualize white light extending upwards while reciting the words for Brother Sol.

Sigil Magic and Invocation

Take the pen and draw the sigil you created during the New Moon Ceremony for this cycle on a small piece of paper. Roll the consecrated bay leaf in the paper. It’s time to take all the energy we’ve built up and crystalized throughout the whole lunar month and release it all out to the universe. The Lunar Cycle Ceremonies are essentially a lunar month-long prayer culminating in this moment. This ceremony draws on the power of the waning moon, the power of release which is necessary for rebirth. Next month we can be reborn with the New Moon and a new intention.

(Important Note: Unless you have a wood-burning fireplace you should probably continue this part outside where it is safe. Always be mindful of safety when working with fire.)

Place the paper with the bay leaf rolled inside somewhere where it is safe to burn and light it on fire. As it burns and the smoke rises recite:

We call upon the spirit of air and the power of Sister Luna to lend us strength. This smoke represents the element of air and the power of release. Let us release and be renewed.

Opening the Circle

Refer back to the Circle of Praise for instructions. This time put out each respective candle as you go through it ending with the purple candle and anointed candle on the altar. Take a moment of gratitude and end the ceremony.
